Does the European Accessibility Act Apply to Your App? A Simple Checklist

The European Accessibility Act (EAA) is a critical regulation aiming to ensure that various digital services are accessible to all individuals, including those with disabilities. Determining whether your app falls under the scrutiny of this Act can be straightforward with the right criteria. Here's a checklist designed to help app developers and businesses understand if the EAA is applicable to their mobile or web applications.

Who Needs to Comply?

The EAA applies to businesses and services operating within the European Union that provide services to the public. Here’s a simple breakdown to help identify if your app needs to comply:

  • Your app is available in the EU: your app (via App Store or Google Play) can be downloaded by a user an EU country
  • Your app is within the included categories: banking, e-commerce, transport, communication (messaging, VOIP etc), media services (streaming), e-books, emergency services

You can choose to not comply if your business is a micro-enterprise : fewer than 10 employees AND annual turnover or balance sheet ≤ €2 million.

Stay ahead by reviewing your app’s accessibility status today and taking steps to ensure full compliance with the European Accessibility Act.
